Greater Texas Community Panel

Using Insights to Build Stronger Communities

About the Greater Texas Community Panel

The Greater Texas Community Panel is a representative group of adults from Dallas, El Paso, Hidalgo and Tarrant Counties.

Through a series of surveys, the panel will provide new insights into residents’ health and well-being, helping to guide efforts to better support community needs. Initial surveys will explore healthy living, responsive agriculture and precision nutrition.

The panel is a collaboration between the Texas A&M Agrilife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture and Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who conducts the surveys?

Surveys are developed and conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture and Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research.

Dallas, El Paso, Hidalgo and Tarrant Counties were chosen to be part of this panel because of their large populations. This helps ensure that the sample size is large enough to be representative of the people in these communities. These counties also represent different parts of Texas, and their unique locations can affect people’s values, attitudes and challenges.

Three initial surveys will be conducted in the areas of healthy living, responsive agriculture and precision nutrition.

We used a process called probability sampling to select members of the Greater Texas Community Panel. This means every household in Dallas, El Paso, Hidalgo and Tarrant counties has a chance to be chosen – and yours was selected at random. Because of this approach, the answers from a few thousand households can accurately reflect the views and experiences of the whole region.

Participation is completely voluntary, but we hope you will consider joining and sharing your perspective. If you decide later that you no longer want to take part, just let us know and we’ll take you off the panel. Some survey questions may be required, but others you’ll be able to skip.

If your household is invited to join, you will receive a letter in the mail with a PIN and a link to the survey. Open the link on your phone or computer and enter the PIN when prompted.

Your answers will be used for research purposes only. They won’t be linked to you personally, but overall results will be shared publicly through reports, dashboards or similar outlets.

Your privacy is our priority. Only the research teams at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the Kinder Institute will have access to your personal information, and we will not share or sell your data. Information is stored on a secure server that is HIPPA and FERPA compliant.

Yes, you can tell others that you are part of the Greater Texas Community Panel. Your participation helps inform decisions in our region. Just remember to answer survey questions based on your own views – we want to hear your voice.

One to three days after completing a survey, we will email you instructions to claim your reward – an electronic gift card redeemable at over 200 major retailers and restaurants. The reward amount will be listed in your invitation letter.
